
Mrs. Deanna Marshall
Director of Bands, AHS
Deanna Marshall serves as the Director of Bands at Auburn High School, a position she has held since 2017. She is starting her 27th year of teaching and her 19th year with Auburn City Schools.
Mrs. Marshall earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education, with a concentration in Instrumental Music, from Auburn University. She began her teaching career in Georgia, where she directed middle and high school band programs for eight years in Cartersville and LaGrange. She later returned to Auburn to join the faculty at Drake Middle School, where she taught seventh grade beginning band for nine years, developing strong foundational musicianship and performance skills in her students.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Marshall has been recognized for excellence in teaching and leadership. She was named Teacher of the Year at Long Cane Middle School (2008–2009) and Drake Middle School (2010–2011) and was also selected as Secondary Teacher of the Year for Auburn City Schools during that same year. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education, an honorary member of Tau Beta Sigma, and serves as the founding Chapter Advisor for the Auburn High School Tri-M Music Honor Society, which has been selected three times as the Alabama Tri-M Chapter of the Year. Additionally, she recently served the Alabama Bandmasters Association as District VI Chairman.
Under Mrs. Marshall’s direction, bands have consistently earned Superior ratings at AMEA and GMEA events, including LGPE, MPA, Solo and Ensemble, and All-State events. Her students have excelled musically because of her dedication to comprehensive music education. She has led the Auburn High School Marching Band to become an award-winning competitive ensemble and has expanded performance opportunities by continuing participation in Winter Guard International (WGI) and establishing the Indoor Drumline program during her tenure at AHS. Mrs. Marshall is also an active clinician throughout Alabama, Louisiana, and Georgia.
Mrs. Marshall enjoys spending time with her spouse, Keri, and their daughters, Emma and Laurel. In her free time, she enjoys yard work, watching movies, traveling, coffee, diet mountain dew, Mexican food, and listening to music.
